Day 13 of 31 Days of Halloween
Gothic Nightmare Catcher
3D Shaker Ornament
by Leigh
I used my spooktacular Gothic Nightmare Catcher SVG Cutz set and cut out all the elements included in the set twice using my Silhouette Cameo 4. One set is a mirror image of each element because they are adhered back-to-back so the hanging Gothic Nightmare Catcher can be seen from both sides.
I cut 2 of the Gothic Nightmare Catcher lace spiderweb overlay piece and all the bats from black cardstock. I painted all the black cardstock pieces with Peony Spectrum Noir sparkle ink for a subtle pretty shimmer with a pink/purple tint. I then trimmed away the spiderweb interior from one of the overlays...I'll use the spiderweb on another project.
I printed out a large Wicked Moon onto white cardstock and then a mirror image onto a sheet of mixed media cardstock I coloured with Villainous Potion and Salvaged Patina Distress Oxide Sprays then fussy cut them out using the cut line of the matching mat layer included in the Gothic Nightmare Catcher SVG Cutz set. Originally I intended to print the shaker Wicked Moon onto glow-in-the-dark paper but my last sheet absolutely refused to feed into my printer UGH...so black and white Wicked Moon it is! I also cut the mat layers for all the bats included in the set from the Distress Oxide cardstock too.
The "front" of the 3D hanging ornament is the Shaker side. Using the Wicked Moon cuts as a template I cut a circle from acetate and adhered it to the back of the spiderweb lace overlay panel then added 1/8 inch foam tape (a Scrapbook.com exclusive - use my affiliate link to grab this must have product at no extra cost to you) to build the shaker wall around the outer edge of the spiderweb lace overlay. I then added my bats and pumpkin confetti and copper microbeads shaker elements and covered the back with the black and white Wicked Moon. I then coloured the white foam tape outside edge with black sharpie.
On the "back" of the 3D hanging ornament I adhered the Distress Oxide coloured Wicked Moon and the lace overlay without the spiderweb interior.
I sewed some invisible thread into the bottom edge of the shaker ornament to dangle my trio of bats from. I applied Ranger Glossy Accents to all the bats and for my glow-in-the-dark element I adhered tiny pieces of the Silhouette GID sticker paper to the back of their eyes then adhered them to their mat layers which I edged with Black Soot Distress ink. I then sandwiched the invisible thread between the layers to create the flying trio of bats dangling from the Gothic Nightmare Catcher and finished off with a tiny metal spider from this year's Tim Holtz Halloween Ideal-ology.
To hang the Gothic Nightmare Catcher 3D Shaker hanging Ornament I also glued two more of Tim's metal spiders to the fleur-de-lis topper and lined up the holes to thread the invisible thread through.
