When Black Cats Prowl

and Pumpkins Gleam

May Luck Be Yours

on Halloween 

 

 

 Pop a 6" flameless candle behind the open slimline card and watch the magic happen as the stack of Jack o' Lanterns gleam and the Skelly Cat purrs in the darkness!

The "When Black Cats Prowl" saying is from my A Wicked Compendium of Halloween Sayings, a set of 41 senties and sayings for all your Halloween makes and more!  I printed the saying via Silhouette Design Studio and fussy cut it out with an offset using my Silhouette Cameo 4 plus a matching shadow layer out of black cardstock.  I then edged the saying with orange Stickles glitter before adhering it to the mat layer.

 

I printed out my creepy cute Carved Skelly Cat and cut him out with a narrow offset as well as a matching shadow mat layer from black cardstock to make him pop against the pumpkins and background and coloured him up with Prismacolor pencils.

 

 

I then cut the Jack o' Lanterns Layered Lace SVG Cutz lace overlay and a medium sized bat from the Gothic Nightmare Catcher SVG Cutz out of black cardstock...look how delighted the top Jack o' Lantern is to see the little bat flying by!  

 

 

For my background I painted mixed media cardstock with Villainous Portion and Uncharted Mariner Distress Oxide sprays and left it to dry while I made my slimline card.  I designed the scene in Silhouette Design Studio by first stacking the slimline card elements that are included in these 2 sets from the A Charming Christmas Collection:  Snowmen Slimline Make-a-Card Layered SVG Cutz and the Christmas Baubles Slimline Make-a-Card Layered SVG Cutz.  Using only the outer edge cut line of the Jack o' Lanterns Layered Lace SVG Cutz set I subtracted the shape of the pumpkins from all the layers including the folded card base to make the cut out window for the luminary element of the card.  Then used the mat layer cuts to cut the Distress Oxide mat and the larger orange mat.  I used the orange Stickles glitter to add sparkle to the edge of the Distress Oxide panel too.

 

I then assembled all the layers and sandwiched a piece of parchment paper between the orange mat and the black folded card and adhered the Jack o' Lanterns Layered Lace SVG Cutz lace overlay on top.  I then created the stained glass-like luminary effect by painting the parchment paper and the pumpkins overlay with orange, yellow and green Spectrum Noir sparkle ink pens for lots of magical shimmer.  I finished off by adhering Skelly Cat to the card with foam tape and bent the little bat's wings to give the card some fun dimension.
