I’m going to start adding stuff this week🤪
See you there!

On to today’s tutorial...Enjoy😀

Hi Everyone, Nan here today with a project featuring the lovely Fall Roses released earlier this month!  I have colored it using so many different palettes and love each one better than the last!  I'm not really a card maker but love playing with inks and colors and textures and especially quotes to make art journal pages.  Some I plan on adding photos of my own but most can stand as just simple creations that make me smile!   This page started with, of course, the fabulous image and the quote.
I colored this version of the Fall Roses in deep oranges and reds.  I kept the colors going with some awesome brown, deep red, and orange falling leaves.  I colored all of the rose leaves using two shades of green.  I used my Soucolor Markers which for the money I must say I am enjoying them to bits!  For the background I chose a burlap textured piece of designer paper long lost and forgotten in my stash.  I cut it to fit my journal page and glued down.

Stenciling was next with some Distress Inks but the color just wouldn't pop so I went to a non-traditional papercrafting goodie of fabric paints in spray bottles!  Fun and oh so vibrant!  I took some bubble wrap, sequin waste and gold acrylic craft paint to make sure the background didn't compete with the image.  White tempura paint sponges through the sequin waste piece left some areas that when dried could be topped with Gelatos in red and orange.   A few spritz of Heidi Swapp's Tea Dye spray with some gorgeous shimmer and I had the background I wanted.  The burlap has an oh so autumn look to it and then the red, yellows, oranges, and gold of falling leaves.

Again, not wanting to loose all that fantastic detail in the Fall Roses image,  I left a good margin around the image when cutting it out. Then glued the image after inking with Distress Ink Mowed Lawn.

The last step was to add the quote!  I find it so satisfying to add a quote that matches my feelings for the image.  This one was spot on!  Lots of shimmer and shine makes for a happy page🍁

Tutorial Tuesday: Fall Roses in Prismacolor pencils and Distress Oxides by Leigh!

Howzit Creative Friends!
For today's Tutorial Tuesday I'm sharing how I coloured up Fall Roses using Prismacolor pencils and created a background with Distress Oxides🍁

If you missed the release sale then you can add Fall Roses to your collection now while it's FLASH SALE until midnight pacific on Thursday August 23rd!
Enjoy😉

The way I coloured up my Fall Roses and created the background is actually pretty easy to do while giving you a dramatic finished piece suitable for framing or using on your projects.

Start out by creating the background using Distress Oxides, I picked 5 Oxides for my Fall/Autumn colour palette:  Squeezed Lemonade, Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade, Twisted Citron and Bundled Sage.

Smear the inks onto a craft sheet and spritz with water.  Lay an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of mixed media cardstock onto the inks and press and smear the inks around with your hands.  Lift up and dry with a heat tool and then randomly pick up the remaining excess ink droplets to add the extra mottled effect and heat set as you go.  You can even add more colours into the mottled look at this point too.

Once the cardstock is completely dry size Fall Roses in your favourite software and print the design out directly onto the Distress Oxide background.  Colour the design with Prismacolor pencils in a traditional Fall/Autumn colour palette as well.  I used the same colour combo on the roses and maple leaves and then 2 different green combos on the rose and oak leaves.

 Prismacolor pencils used:
Canary Yellow, Yellowed Orange, Dark Umber, Limepeel, Chartreuse, Grass Green, Peacock Green and Crimson Lake.

I love how it turned out, the colours are so rich and beautiful!  I hope I've inspired you to get into the Fall spirit and colour up your own Fall Roses😉

Tutorial Tuesdays: Fall Roses Technique Folder project by Val S!

Hello Creative Friends!

Fall Roses is also available in LeighSBDesigns Etsy Boutique at a special intro price good through August 18, sale ends at midnight PT!

I now hand you over to Val!
Enjoy😊

Hi everyone, for today's tutorial I'm sharing the Technique Folder I made with the beautiful Fall Roses gracing the cover.
To start I printed out Fall Roses onto white mixed media cardstock and coloured it up using Hobby Art watercolour markers.

I used 5 colours and created my own mixed blends by applying the tip of the lightest of each colour marker to the tip of each of the darkest colours and applied colour to the design.  If you haven't tried this technique before then don't worry it doesn't damage the markers in any way, the lightest markers return to their original colour as you colour.

I used bright yellow and combined it with beige and yellow green combined with a mid green.  I then used natural beige over the entire design, roses and leaves, to create seamless blends.

I then fussy cut out the design ready to decorate the cover of my folder.

Now for the folder!
I used a sheet of corrugated card and cut it to measure 5.75" x 5.25".  Find the center of the panel and score 2 lines to create a spine 1.75" wide.

Then cut 2 pieces of patterned paper the same size as the folder covers and a piece for the spine.

I had a little accident with some black gesso and ended up using a different coloured paper with the same pattern.

Then cut 2 panels and a spine from black cardstock for the inside of the covers.

Adhere the patterned papers and the black cardstock to the corrugated panel with your favourite adhesive.  I used Mod Podge.

Apply black and white polka dot washi tape to the spine folds and the folder edges.

Punch 2 holes into the spine and thread bakers twine through the holes.

Create pages for the folder from white cardstock about 1/4" smaller than the folder cover.  Decide what you'd like to use your folder for and create pages from an assortment of papers and cardstocks.  Score and fold the page panels in half and then tuck them under the fiber inside the folder and tie a knot and a bow on the outside of the spine to secure the pages.

Adhere the Fall Roses to the cover of the folder with your favourite adhesive and your folder is now finished and ready to use.  I'm using mine to store stamping techniques in, what will you use yours for?

Tutorial Tuesdays: Oddleigh Snowflake Elf card by Val!

Howzit Creative Friends!
Boy its hot everywhere and the wild fires are rampant across the planet...stay safe everyone😱
I'm melting inside coz I'm not running my A/C to help with the over-loaded power grid so here's a winter themed tutorial by LeighSBDesigner Val to bring some much needed relief even if it is just in our imaginations❄️

Hi everyone, today I have a Christmas Card to share using the wonderful Oddleigh Snowflake Elf and Snowflakes set which is now on FLASH SALE until Thursday midnight pacific❄️

Start by printing out lil miss Oddleigh Snowflake Elf onto white cardstock suitable for alcohol marker colouring.

I used Neenah white cardstock and coloured her up with Spectrum Noir Colourista pens and Hobby Art pens.

I added white gel pen details and applied Tim Holtz Clear Rock Candy Distress Stickles Glitter for lots of winter magic and then fussy cut her out.

Now to create that wonderful background!  I decided to go completely non-traditional and used shiny black cardstock.

Cut a panel measuring 4" x 5.5" and emboss it with a swirling snowflake design.  Use a sanding block (or regular sandpaper) to remove the black coating from the just the embossed design to reveal the white cardstock beneath.  It's such a fun effect!

Remove the dust from the sanding with a piece of paper towel and apply a sheet of double-sided adhesive film, cut to the same size as the embossed panel, to the front of the panel and smooth it down to remove any air bubbles.  Peel off the remaining protective film and completely cover the panel with Clear Rocky Candy Stickles Glitter.  Then apply yellow Studio G glitter glue to the centers of the snowflakes.

Make a white card blank measuring 4.24" x 5.5" and cut a panel from matte black cardstock 1/4" larger than the embossed panel.  Adhere the black mat to the card blank with glue and then add the embossed panel to it.   Adhere lil miss Oddleigh Snowflake Elf to the card with 3D foam.

Complete the card with a Christmas sentiment.  Stamp Merry Christmas onto white Neenah cardstock with black Memento ink, trim and also attach it to the card with foam for a fun 3D effect.
