Shaker cards are so much fun and my new Cherry Blossom Cut-In Card Topper SVG Cutz sets for electronic cutting machines, like Cricut and Silhouette, etc, paired up with your favourite decorative papers and mixed media backgrounds are perfect for making stunning shakers!

 

 

Today I've got an elegant slimline shaker card with multiple shaker sections featuring my new Cherry Blossom Cut-In Slimline Card Topper SVG Cutz set to inspire you.  The beautiful floral cut-in design is perfect for making both vertical and horizontal slimline cards with the included overlay, mats and layers or take them to the next level and make shaker cards!

 

 The 5 piece Cherry Blossom Cut-In Slimline Card Topper SVG Cutz set includes everything you need to make a fabulous layered topper for your card fronts and more.  The top overlay has a wonderful cut-in Cherry Blossom design of 4 flowers in various sizes and a mat layer that lets you customize the colour of the flowers.  The set also includes 3 concentric mat layers to complete your card fronts.

 

 

Using my Silhouette Cameo 5 and Electrostatic Mat I first cut out the beautiful stylized Cherry Blossom cut-in overlay panel from a vintage shabby chic floral patterned paper.  I then applied Crafter's Companion gold glitter glue to the edges of the panel and all the flower stamens.

 

 

Instead of the traditional clear acetate I backed the front overlay panel of my shaker with white vellum and used the backing mat layer included in the SVG Cutz set to cut out the vellum panel.

 

 

To make this shaker slimline card even more dramatic I turned all 4 of the flower openings into shakers instead of the entire card front where the shaker contents end up puddled at the bottom!

 

 

I first framed the entire panel with narrow foam tape then added foam tape strips around each flower.  Next I cut a second panel of vellum and dry fit it so I could map out the flower areas and cut out the pieces to seal and contain the shaker contents in each flower section.  This also left the circle cut-ins open so the flowers have a more muted shade and the circles remain the true colour of the background panel which I cut from a sheet of peach cardstock using the mat layer included in the set.

 

 

How can your shaker cards get any better?  How about making SCENTED shaker cards!!!!

I filled my shaker flowers with scented pink and white powders which I mixed with crystal glitter to make my shaker card not only look good it SMELLS good too!!!!!  How cool and clever is that!!!!

I don't think I've seen anyone do this so remember you saw it here first, wink wink!

 

 

To complete my card I made a folded 4" x 9" inch slimline card base from heavy weight white cardstock.

It's Tutorial Tuesday with Leigh time and today I'm going to show you how I made a horizontal slimline card featuring Digi Stamps and SVG Cutz from my brand new FantaSea Collection🧜🏻‍♀️

Horizontal Slimline Make-a-Card SVG Cutz

 Today's slimline card features Coral Balleigh MerMonster and the "Mermaid Scales" Horizontal Slimline Make-a-Card SVG Cutz kit from my brand new FantaSea Collection🧜🏻‍♀️

 

 

My new "Mermaid Scales" Horizontal Slimline Make-a-Card SVG Cutz kit is a mer-mazing 12 piece cutting file set that lets you make a vertical slimline card from start to finish!  This kit includes 10 mermaid scale layers perfectly sized to the slimline shape, a slimline card base with a perforated fold line and 1 mat layer.  All LeighSBDesigns SVG Cutz are for popular electronic cutting machines compatible with SVG files like Silhouette, Cricut and Scan n Cut.  They are designed in Silhouette Design Studio and always include both Silhouette Studio 3 and SVG files. 

 

First I cut out the slimline folded card base and mat layer included in the "Mermaid Scales" Horizontal Slimline Make-a-Card SVG Cutz kit.  I used 138lb (250gsm) heavy weight white cardstock to cut the slimline card.  The slimline card comes with a perforated fold line so you just cut it out and fold, easy peasy.  The mat layer included in the set is part of the layered scales as it peeks out along the bottom edge beneath the last scale so depending on the colour of the last scale you'll want to cut the mat layer from a different colour if you're using alternating colours.  If you're going to do alternating scales like I've done today then you can either plan everything out before cutting or just keep things simple and cut one set of scales plus the mat layer from one colour and another set from the 2nd colour and simply alternate the scales and make 2 cards at the same time!

 

The slimline make-a-card kit is designed to work with both 8.5 x 11 (A4) and 12 x 12 cutting mats so the size of your cardstock and cutting mat will determine how you lay the mermaid scales out for cutting.  I used turquoise and teal from Crafter's Companion heavy weight 12 x 12 textured cardstock to create my alternating scale layers.  I cut one set of scales and the mat layer from the turquoise cardstock and a second set from the teal.

TOP TIP:

To keep the mermaid scales in order remove the first scale from the cutting mat and write #1 on the back and so on.  This way your scales will always be in order especially if you plan to customize them before assembling or keep for a later make down the road!

 

Use the mat layer that comes in the slimline card kit as the base layer to adhere the mermaid scales to for perfect alignment.  The amount of alternating colours you use and how closely you overlap them will determine how many scales you will need for your card.  I provided 10 but you might need extra or use less so I recommend doing a dry fit on your mat layer before gluing the scales down.  You will also then be able to determine how much of the mat layer colour peeks out from under the last scale at the bottom.  To adhere the mermaid scales always start with the bottom scale layer first and glue as you work upwards, lining up the scale edges with the edge of the mat layer, for perfect overlapping scales.  Working from the bottom to the top will then allow you to trim away any overlap if you were a bit off with your dry test.  

 

TOP TIP:

I just applied a dab of glue to each scallop and a bit on the top edge as I worked upwards and then put a line of glue along the top edge of the last scale to make sure the mermaid scale layer was fully adhered to the base layer. 

 

  The layered mermaid scales make a mermazing slimline card on their own or you can customize with a sentiment complete or make it truly mermazing and embellish with a digi stamp from my new FantaSea Collection🧜🏻‍♀️

 

 

 I coloured Coral Balleigh MerMonster in Adobe Fresco, printed her out and then used a Torn Edge Crafter's Companion circle die to cut her out.  Coral comes with a Mother's Day senti but I had extras of the Mother's Day senti that comes in the Pearl Balleigh MerMonster and Senti set to use.  I printed the senti via Silhouette Design Studio and used the offset feature to cut the senti out in a fancy shape.

 

 I then used Waterfall Stickles glitter to edge the layered mermaid scales panel, Coral and the senti too.  I decorated the inside of the card with a panel cut from the teal cardstock and added the senti.

 

 I then adhered the layered mermaid scales panel to the front of the folded slimline card base and embellished the the upper right corner with clear dew drop gems adhered with Glossy Accents.

 

 

Then adhered the Coral panel to the card front with low profile pop dots for just a little bit of dimension and embellished with 3 clear dew drop gems and a 4th in the top left corner of the card too.

 

To complete my horizontal slimline card I added pretty magical shimmer by painting Coral's pearl with a Spectrum Noir clear sparkle brush glitter pen.  It's always hard to capture just how pretty the sparkle is in real life but you get the idea in these photos!

 

 

The "Mermaid Scales" Horizontal Slimline Make-a-Card SVG Cutz kit combined with Coral Balleigh MerMonster makes such a striking slimline card full of FINtastic layered texture.  The SVG Cutz slimline card kit may look daunting at first glance but my kit makes it really easy for you to cut out and assemble for lots of fun mermazing card making🧜🏻‍♀️

The Elegant Snowflake Ornament Stand 3D Lace SVG Cutz set includes 18 cut elements for you to fully customize your 3D snowflake and stand.  9 of the 18 elements are mirror images to ensure perfect alignment when assembling.  The cut file opens with one set of 9 elements grouped on the left and the mirror image of each element grouped on the right.  For this tutorial I'm demonstrating the assembly of the 3D Snowflake Ornament and the 3D Stand.

 

 

I recommend you make a stand with a minimum of 4 sides so you will need to cut 4 stand base panels out of heavy weight cardstock.  I used Crafter's Companion Centura Pearl 310gsm cardstock cut on my Silhouette Cameo 4 using the heavy coverstock 105lb to 122lb material setting with a 31 force and 2 passes.  Always do a tiny test cut in the corner of your material to ensure you get a nice cut to avoid wasting an entire sheet of cardstock!

 

 

Step 1

Cut 2 of the stand panel from the left group and 2 from the mirror image group (right hand side group).

 

  

Step 2

Fold all the stand panels along the center perforated fold line. 

 

Step 3

Cut 4 of the stand base mat layers.  In the SVG Cutz set there is one mat layer with a perforated fold line for use with cardstock and a mat layer without for lighter weight mats.  I used a beautiful Crafter's Companion snowflake themed vellum for my mats.  I folded each piece in half and creased nicely with a bone folder.

 

  

Step 4

Apply dabs of glue to the back of one stand base panel at a time.

 

 

Step 5

Adhere the vellum mat layers to all 4 stand base panels.

 

 

Stand Assembly

Step 6

Apply dabs of glue to one half side of a folded stand base panel and adhere it to a second folded stand base panel.  Start by lining up the base and then press the circle frame together working your way up to the snowflake finial. 

 

TIPS:

I highly recommend wet glue for assembly coz it gives you more time to wiggle the pieces and line them up nicely and I've got some tiny plastic pegs I use to clamp the pieces together while they dry.

 

 

Step 7

Adhere 2 stand base panels together and while they dry adhere the other 2 together.  Then adhere them all together leaving one side un-glued.

 

 

3D Snowflake Ornament Assembly

 Step 8

Start by cutting 2 of the snowflake mat layers from the left group and 2 from the mirror image group on the right.  In the set you will find one snowflake mat layer with a perforated fold line for use with cardstock and one without for use with light weight materials.  I cut mine out of vellum and folded them equally in half and pressed the fold nicely with a bone folder.

 

Step 9

The Snowflake Ornament is hand drawn and not symmetrical so you do need to take a minute to dry fit the pieces and lay them all out ready to make assembly easier.

 

 

Step 10

Apply dabs of glue to one side of a folded snowflake mat layer and adhere it to one folded side of it's mirror image.  Repeat the process for the other 2 pieces.

 

 

Step 11

Then adhere them altogether leaving one side of the snowflake mats un-glued.

 

 

Step 12

I then cut 4 Snowflake lace overlays out of the same cardstock I used to make the stand.

 

 

Step 13

Cut 2 snowflake overlays from the left group and 2 from the mirror image group.  Dry fit them together to make sure they perfectly align.  You will notice that there is one snowflake point that is more narrow and pointer than the rest (in the photo below you can see this point nicely at the bottom of the snowflake on the right).  This is a good visual reference to use for the top of the snowflake ornament to ensure you line up the pieces correctly.

 

 

Step 14

Before gluing dry fit the overlay in place on the vellum snowflake to make sure you've got the alignment right....doesn't hurt to check twice!  

 

 

 Step 15

Apply dabs of glue to the snowflake overlay and adhere it to one side of the vellum snowflake.

 

  

 

In the photo below you can see the snowflake alignment reference point nicely at the bottom of the snowflake.  See how it's a lot more narrow and pointier than the opposite end.

 

Step 16

Adhere all of the snowflake overlays to the vellum snowflake still leaving one side un-glued.

 

 

Step 17

Flatten out the snowflake and make sure all the folds are nicely creased.

 

 

Step 18

Apply glue down the spine and lay in a length of fishing line to create the ornament hanger then adhere the last side of the snowflake together.

 

 

TIP:

I really love my little pegs for clamping!

 

 

The 4 sided 3D Snowflake Ornament is complete.  Now is a good time to customize it further if you want to bling it up with glitter and gems.

 

 

Step 19

Now it's time to hang the snowflake ornament inside the stand.  Flatten out the stand and the snowflake ornament and clamp the sides together to make things easier! 

 

 

Step 20

Apply a line of glue inside the spine of the snowflake finial at the top of the stand and press in the fishing line hanger and leave it to glue in place for a few minutes before trimming away the excess line.

 

 

Step 21

Apply glue to the last side of the stand and adhere the panels together and you're done!

How easy was that!  The Elegant Snowflake Ornament Stand looks like a more advanced 3D paper art project but once you know how armed with these instructions it's pretty easy to do with just a bit of time and patience to get all the elements lined up nicely!

 

TIP:

If the stand wobbles a bit then it's because the alignment at the point between the 2 stars along the bottom edge is off a bit.  You can snip off the bit that sticks out too much with pointy detail scissors and viola, wobble fixed!

 

 

 Now is good time to embellish the stand with glitter and gems if you want to.  Plus, if you choose to customize the stand with the other cut elements included in the SVG Cutz set you can do that now or as part of Step 5!

 

 

The finished Elegant Snowflake Ornament Stand is so beautiful and will take your holiday decor to the next level plus imagine the joy you'll bring to your family and friends who will be in awe if you give them one of these as your Christmas cards this year coz yep, the entire stand folds flat for mailing!  Awesome right😉
