In celebration of Winter and the New Year I've got a fabulous luminary card to share today featuring the elegant Winter Cardinal and magical Sunlight Through the Pines from my new "Rocky Mountain Christmas" collection.

Beautiful by day, magical by night when the card glows prettily in the evenings!

 

 

 

I coloured the Winter Cardinal digitally in Adobe Fresco, printed it out then fussy cut it out leaving a narrow white border around the image.

I painted all the pine sprigs and the Cardinal with Spectrum Noir clear sparkle paint and applied Crystal Stickles glitter to the all the pine cones for lots of pretty sparkle.

 

 

To make the luminary card I first made a 5 x 7 inch top fold card from heavy weight white cardstock.  Then embossed the red cardstock mat layer with Crafter's Companion's Pretty Poinsettia 3D embossing folder.  To give the background layer a nice rustic organic look to go with my nature theme I distressed the edges with the Tim Holtz distress tool then applied Spectrum Noir metallic gold pigment ink directly to the distressed edges for a touch of elegant metallic gold shimmer then adhered the layer to the card with wet glue.

 

  

To make the luminary frame I used the large Poinsettia Mini Background frame die by Creative Expressions and die cut it out of Crafter's Companion's heavy weight Gold Glitter card.  To give the luminary some nice depth and to also accommodate the wire dew drop lights I applied 1/8" inch high white foam tape strips to the back of the frame.  Before removing the foam tape backing I determined the frame and light placement and punched a hole through the red background and the white card with a Tim Holtz pick.  For this card I only needed 2 dew drop light bulbs closest to the battery box and cut off the rest.  I then threaded the lights through the hole from the inside of the card, secured the wire in place with tape and then adhered the die cut frame to the card front.

 

 

I decorated the inside of the card with another gold glitter die cut frame and tucked in a portion of the fussy cut "Sunlight Through the Pines" pine cone sprig behind the top left corner.  For even more pretty sparkle I also added Crystal Stickles glitter to the pine cones.

 

 

 

I used Scrapbook.com's "Happy New Year" die for the inside of the card which I die cut twice from the same red cardstock to make a nice chunky sentiment and added magical shimmer with the Spectrum Noir clear sparkle paint pen.

 

 

 Here you can see I attached the battery light switch to the back of the card front on the inside of the card.  I used tape to wrap the wire around the side of the battery box and adhered it to the card with glue dots.

  

 

I then completed my luminary card by adhering the Winter Cardinal to the card front with low profile foam tape squares for even more fun dimension.

I used the light to achieve the "aspenglow" effect on the Rocky Mountains and shine prettily through the pines.

💀 Spooky Vampire Balleigh Monster 💀

My Day 17 of 31 Days of Halloween Hop inspiration for you today is a spooky scene featuring the fangtastic Vampire Balleigh Monster set from my SPOOKtember 2020 release🎃

 

Vampire Balleigh Monster is out on the prowl with his Jack o' Lantern looking for foolish mortals to invite him in and give him candy🎃 

 

 

Uho....he’s found a spooky house he likes, I hope no one is home!

 

OH NO!  The lights just came on, someone is home.....eeeeek!!  Don’t invite the vampire in!!!!!!

 

 

 But they’re doomed coz look at this cutie, he’s totally rocking the vampire charm...no one can resist that adorable lil monster face and his Jack o’ lantern! 

I coloured Vampire Balleigh Monster and his Jack o’ Lantern with Copics and fussy cut them out.  The spooky haunted mansion is a Silhouette Design Store cut file by Erin Doran.  I cut it out twice from heavy weight black cardstock to glue together for a chunkier feel and applied Spectrum Noir Gold Inca wax to the outer edges of the one I used as a base to create a touch of gold shadow beneath the top one.  For the wonderful creepy background I used a sheet of Tim’s Abandoned paper and cut out holes to correspond with the house windows then pounced Spectrum Noir Midas Gold pigment ink to the edges of the panel.  I put yellow cellophane behind all the windows of the spooky house scene and then adhered it to the panel.  I had some grass border left over from my Poe Gnome hex house and added gold ink to the edges and then mounted it to the front of the card with black foam tape.  I made a folded card from heavy weight black cardstock and cut holes in the front to allow light to shine through the cellophane windows.  A tea light placed inside the card makes the windows light up at night for spooky ambience.  I then added my lil monster and his pumpkin to the front of the card and for the finishing touch I cut out teeny tiny bat silhouettes of Grim Batleigh and decorated the sky with them and the moon that came with the house.  The spooky scene is now set and Vampire Balleigh Monster is ready to go scare the neighbours🎃

 

 

Vampire Balleigh Monster really wants to come haunt at your house...but remember...vampires need to be invited in...do you dare?

Haunted House Luminary card

Happy Halloween Eve!

Yesterday I shared my 2nd luminary card and now here's my 3rd one which I made for my nephew using Bugaboo's dig stamp, Halloween Silhouette.

 For this card I made the card window frame to fit the size of the digi transparency and decorated it with decorative paper (Target $$$ bins) and border stickers (Martha Stewart).  I dove tailed the Trick or Treat border and edged it with crystal Stickles glitter glue as well as the window frame edge and  I used blues, purples, red and yellow Alcohol Inks on the transparency.  The photo above shows the true colours but then the magic happens in the evening when you turn on the flameless tea light hidden inside the card. 

In the photos below you can see how the card transforms in different lighting, from daylight to darkness and also a closer look at the glittery details and also a view of the inside of the card.  I used different decorative pumpkin paper for the inside of this card which was also stamped with a scene by PSX and the word BOO (can't remember who made this foam stamp set..possibly All Night Media) in black Versafine ink.

Happy Halloween Luminary card #2

YAY!  Only 2 more sleeps 'til Halloween!

Yesterday I shared my 1st luminary card and here's my 2nd.  This one I made for my sister using Bugaboo's dig stamp, Happy Halloween Circle Silhouette.

 I pretty much made this one the same way I made the luminary card I shared yesterday.  For this one though I altered the colour of the orange decorative pumpkin paper I scanned and used on my other card and made this one purple and I used red and yellow Alcohol Inks on the transparency.  I completed the front of the card with Shaded Lilac Distress Ink applied to the outer edges and applied Crystal Stickles glitter glue around the circle and the flourishy parts of the web.  I also added Viva Pearl Transparent Magic White dimensional dots all the critters eyes and on all 4 corners of the card.
The card above shows the true colours but then the magic happens in the evening when you turn on the flameless tea light hidden inside the card.

Happy Halloween - Cat Luminary card

YAY!  Only 3 more sleeps 'til Halloween!

Over the next 3 days I'm going to share some luminary cards I've been making as we count down to Halloween.  I made this one for my Mom using Bugaboo's dig stamp, Happy Halloween Cat Silhouette.

First I scanned a sheet of decorative pumpkin paper and added the digi stamp in Photoshop CS6 before printing it out onto white cardstock.  I then printed out just the digi stamp on a printer transparency sheet.  I applied Alcohol inks in blues and purples onto the reverse side of the transparency and cut out the circle.  I then removed the circle from the cardstock print to create the luminary window and adhered the transparency inside with tape.  I then adhered a white cardstock panel to the inside, covering the transparency.  I completed the front of the card with Dried Marigold Distress Ink applied to the outer edges, applied Crystal Stickles glitter glue around the circle and on the flourish and then Viva Pearl Transparent Magic White dimensional dots added to all 4 corners.

 The photo above shows the card in daylight.  You see how vibrant and pretty the blues and purples are but then the magic happens in the evening when you turn on the flameless tea light inside the card.  The last photo below shows how dramatic it is in darkness too!  Ooooh aaaaah, so pretty!

The real pumpkin paper was added to the inside and stamped with a scene by PSX and the word BOO (can't remember who made this foam stamp set..possibly All Night Media) in black Versafine ink.

'Valkyries' Luminary Card for Smudgy Antics 'Anything Goes' Challenge!

Good morning to you all!
It's week 1 of our new "Anything Goes" challenge over at Smudgy Antics!  We know you love these so we should see lots of fabulous entries over the next 2 weeks ;0)  Here's my project to get your Muse going!

"Valkyries"
A Luminary Card

 I had a ball creating this card with an unexpected twist!  I love making interactive creations and being able to add real light to a card is loads of fun.  I used this gorgeous digi image called "The Valkyries" by Smeared Ink and printed it out onto Neenah Solar White cardstock and coloured it with Copic markers.  The edges were distressed with Tim's Paper Distresser tool and then the background was created with a combo of Burnt Umber Pastel Pencil blended with Dove blender pen and Pumice Stone and Black Soot Distress Ink. 

I fussy cut out the center with an Xacto knife and adhered a Quality Street blue cellophane sweet (candy) wrapper over the hole.  The decorative mat is one of Smeared Ink's digi papers from the Honour the Dead set and I cut a circle out of it before adhering the image to it and did the same again before adhering everything to the black card.  Both mats were cut with my Perfect Paper Layers tool and an Xacto knife (I haven't got the measurements I used with me at the mo so will update my post later today).

The effect with the flameless candle standing behind the card is so beautiful and I especially love my candles with the timer so it comes on and off again all by itself ;0)
