Howzit Creative Friends!
It's time for a Tutorial Tuesday segment and today I'm going to show you how to make a quick and easy card with LeighSBDesigns Scratch Hearts background digi and Distress Oxides! I made a cute Valentine card so you can see that the Scratch Hearts isn't just for your dark themed projects!
Scratch Hearts is now on FLASH SALE and ends at midnight pacific Feb 21st!
I got the new 12 Distress Oxides for my birthday and couldn't resist playing around with 3 of the new colours to make an easy but effective background for my card.
I applied the oxides to a sheet of mixed media cardstock with foam ink applicators. I started out with Tattered Rose at the bottom and randomly applied it while moving up, switched to Shaded Lilac and then finished with Blueprint Sketch. I wanted to create the look of twinkling stars and a quick mist of water from a mini mister did the trick. I let the water sit for a few seconds and then dabbed off the excess with paper towel. I dried the cardstock with my heat tool and printed my Scratch Hearts collage background onto it.
I randomly applied clear Wink of Stella to some of the hearts for just a touch of magical sparkle. It's hard to capture how pretty clear Wink of Stella is in photos but you can kind of see it in the photo above and below.
To allow the background to be the star of the show I chose a small cat rubber stamp to pair with it. I inked up the cute Cat Balloon stamp by All Night Media with Lady Bug and Tuxedo Black Memento Ink onto a panel die cut out with a rectangle die. I watercolour painted the background with Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide and a paint brush. Kitty was coloured with Copics in N0, 2, 4 and R20. I hand wrote the sentiment on the balloon with a black Micron pen. I completed the image by adding Viva Pearl magic transparent violet to the balloon. This gives the balloon some dimension and a lovely violet pearlescent shimmer.
I then edged the stamped panel and the background panel with Black Soot Distress Ink, layered them onto red cardstock and trimmed leaving a 1/4" border. I mounted the background onto a folded white card blank and attached the kitty panel to the front with pop dots for a touch of dimension.
