Lost Coast Designs DT Blog Hop - We're not in Kansas anymore!

Howzit Everyone!
If you arrived here from Lost Coast Portal to Creativity then welcome, you've made it safely to the first stop on your wild adventure!  If you came here first then here's the scoop...we're not in Kansas anymore!

Today we, the Lost Coast Designs DT, are having a Wizard of Oz themed blog hop!  The Tornado to the Emerald City will pass by again in about 20 minutes so you've got time to catch your breath and check out my projects ;0)  Then visit my fellow teamies blogs for more wicked cool traditional and non-conventional Oz inspiration!  Return to the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity Blog by hitching a ride with a flying monkey...if you have the courage...and link up your own Wizard of Oz projects in the linky by midnight PST on March 19, click HERE for more info on how to play!

Your entries can feature traditional Oz imagery from any stamp company or you can think waaaaay outside the box and make non-Oz images work too!  The LCDesigners have both kinds to give your brains lots of ideas!  Put your heart into it and have lots of fun ;0)  But keep a look out for Wicked Witches, they're known to lurk around so take a friend, or 3, along for the wild adventure!  The blog roll is below my projects.

Lost Coast Designs has a wonderful set of cartoon Oz characters and Carmen's Veranda has a vintage style set right out of the original movie plus 2 fun background stamps as well as a bunch of monkey images too.  If you use any of our stamps, remember you don't have to have Oz specific stamps to play, then your entry will count as 2 in the prize drawing for a $15 spending spree at Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda!

I'm sharing 5 tags today featuring the following stamps:
Carmen's Veranda Wizard of Oz characters
Carmen's Veranda Flying Monkeys background
Lost Coast Designs large Cityscape

I'll be doing a tutorial in April over on the Lost Coast Review DT blog where I'll explain in more detail how I created the tag backgrounds so for now here's a summary of what I did and used.
All the Oz characters were stamped on Neenah solar white cardstock with black Memento ink, coloured with a combination of Copic markers and Prismacolor pencils and fussy cut out.  I randomly embossed the 5 manila shipping tags with a Darice Brick Wall embossing folder and created my "yellow brick road" by applying Scattered Straw and Mustard Seed Distress Inks directly with touches of yellow Marvy Le Plume alcohol marker added for some details.  I then used Nuance powders in 2 shades of green on the other side of the tags (now sold by Lost Coast Designs).  The powders were randomly sprinkled and then spritzed with water to create the fun effects.  The flying monkeys were stamped with black Memento ink and the Emerald City "cityscape" was stamped with Peeled Paint Distress Ink.  Red glitter glue was applied to all the tags around the edges as well as Dorothy's ruby slippers.  The characters were then adhered with Scotch Quick Dry adhesive and the text "We Are Not In Kansas Any More" was punched out on my vintage Dymo label maker in red tape and spread out among all 5 tags.  I completed my tags with raffia to represent the Scarecrow's straw.  I had a blast making these and I hope you've enjoyed seeing them ;0)

Here's Dorothy with Toto...I just happened to find the little yellow doggie in my crafty stash LOL!
Below is a closer look at her ruby slippers.

Here comes the Tornado, get ready, GO!  Your next stop is Granne!

Happy Hopping and have a great weekend!

  6. You just amaze me Leigh. First off - you totally had me giggling reading this!! And yes - as long as I can look the monkey in the eye and make him promise not to drop me then I will fly with him!!! Your tags are just fantastic. I love the backgrounds - that they all match but are different and that one side is bricks. And each character is just so special - great paint jobs. Love the bright colors. And her shoes - wow. JUST SO FUN. Thanks bunches. XX j.
