"Winter Buttlerfly" Valentine CAS Card for Blockheads!

Woohoo, my first post for 2013...Happy New Year to you all :0)

Southern California is having some really cold weather so I was inspired to create a monochromatic Valentine's Day card with a wintery feel to it!  The Blockheads Paper Arts design team are featuring Butterflies this month and here's my Winter Butterfly CAS card to give you some ideas.  Pop by the Blockheads blog to see the DT butterfly creations too!

The monochromatic colour scheme and wood grained background gives this card a masculine feel even though I used the the heart lace border along the left edge.  The self adhesive lace border by Stampabilities is made from plastic so I think that gives it more of an industrial feel instead of all girly and fluffy.  This is also a CAS card in my opinion coz it is actually pretty clean and simple compared to what I usually do ;0)

Stamp the butterfly from Blockheads Painted Butterflies stamp set onto white heavy weight cardstock with Memento Rich Cocoa ink.  Add dots to the entire design with a white gel pen and add dimension to the image with Judikins Diamond Glaze.  Add the glaze with a toothpick to the stamped areas only and gently fold the butterfly in half to create the dimension before the glaze hardens and then fussy cut it out once dry.  Emboss a sheet of brown cardstock with Tim's Wood Grain Texture Fades embossing folder and distress the edges with Tim's paper distresser tool.  Apply White Cloud VersaMagic ink to the embossed wood grain and the edges with the direct to paper method...which means use the actual ink pad to apply the ink directly to the areas.  Die cut out an oval label from the same white cardstock and stamp Blockheads 'LOVE' word stamp from their Verses full sheet in Memento Rich Cocoa.  Add dots to the letters and apply Judikins Diamond Glaze too.  The oval label I used is a Quickutz with holes in each end but you could use any dies like Spellbinders and Sizzix and punch your own holes.  Attach the label to the card front with square brads.  I didn't have any brown ones so I coloured some orange brads brown with a Mocha Sharpie marker.  Make a white folded card that measures 5 5/8 x 4 5/8 inches and adhere the card front to it with adhesive tape and adhere the butterfly to the card with your favourite craft glueBlockheads Paper Arts stocks a nice selection of adhesives and tapes along with a ton of must have supplies!

You can see the dimension of the butterfly in the photos below...click on them to enlarge.

Happy Stamping!
