"Alice of Hearts" Art Journal Page 5 for Smeared & Smudged!

Howzit Everyone!
Here's my 5th Art Journal page for the week long KICKSTART YOUR ART - Art Journal Every Day challenge with Smeared and Smudged!

Day 5 of KICKSTART YOUR ART
Today's Challenge:
SCRAP BACKGROUND

"Alice of Hearts" Art Journal Page 5

Ha ha, today's challenge didn't steer me away from my Alice In Wonderland theme ;0)
For my background I stitched together some scrap cardstock in various shades of pink and white and took a photo of it.  I was then able to combine it with my digi coloured image of Smeared Ink's Cheshire Cat and used the same "A" and "heart" images from my last 4 pages for continuity except this time I switched their positions.  I use Photoshop CS6 for all my digi artwork.
FYI, the heart is from Heart Wings which is now discontinued and is available as a rubber set only in the Smeared Ink Rubber Club!  Can't wait to see what Saturday's challenge will be :0)  Also stop by tomorrow for a fabulous collaborative Smeared Ink "New Release" blog hop with the SI DT and the AJED DT!

Have a great weekend everyone!

"Alice of Hearts" Art Journal Page 4 for Smeared & Smudged!

Howzit Everyone!
I'm still playing in the week long KICKSTART YOUR ART - Art Journal Every Day challenge and here's my j-page for Day 4!

Day 4 of KICKSTART YOUR ART
Today's Challenge:
Prompt: GROWTH
Use your imagination and interpret it however it suites you

"Alice of Hearts" Art Journal Page 4

I'm still going with my Alice in Wonderland theme...hahaha, so pleased with myself LOL ;0)
I used Smeared Ink's Alice digi image and the challenge prompt GROWTH is depicted in the enormous mushroom and scary plant life plus the fun warped text I added to her body to represent her growing small and large.  This time I printed the image out and coloured it with Copic markers then scanned it and completed my j-page in Photoshop.  I removed some areas of the image and grunged it up by adding in the black journaling lines and used the same "A" and "heart" images from my last 3 pages for continuity.  FYI, the heart is from Heart Wings digi set which is now discontinued and is available as a rubber set in the Smeared Ink Rubber Club!  Can't wait to see what ideas Friday will bring :0)

Thanks for taking this journey with me and leaving me your comments, I truly appreciate them :0)

"Alice of Hearts" Art Journal Page 3 for Smeared & Smudged!

Howzit Everyone!
Thank you for all the wonderful comments you've been leaving me over the last fews days!  I'm so glad you enjoyed our first Smeared Ink Design Team blog hop and my 2 art journal pages I've created so far in the KICKSTART YOUR ART - Art Journal Every Day challenge :0)

Now for Day 3 of KICKSTART YOUR ART!

"Alice of Hearts" - Art Journal Page 3
Today's Challenge:
Easy Found Objects Background Technique
I wasn't sure if I'd get the time to play today and the minute I thought that I knew exactly what I wanted to create!  Don't you just love how inspiration can come just from a single thought!  I'm also pretty pleased with myself coz I still managed to stay within my own theme for my Art Journal titled "Alice of Hearts" ;0)

I like to gather unusual looking leaves and twigs and stuff so for my found object background I took a photo of 3 dried palm leaves on my terracotta tiled floor with my iPhone and then applied a texture filter to it in Photoshop CS6.

My original photo
To keep my AIW theme going I used Smeared Ink's White Rabbit digi image and coloured everything in Photoshop and used the same "A" and "heart" images from my last 2 pages.  The Heart Wings digi set is discontinued and is now only available as a rubber set in the Smeared Ink Rubber Club!  Now I wonder what tomorrow's challenge will be, stay tuned ;0)

Happy Stamping!

"Alice of Hearts" Art Journal Page 2 for Smeared & Smudged!

Howzit Everyone!
It's now Day 2 of KICKSTART YOUR ART!
The Smeared and Smudged Art Journal Every Day DT are so excited to be hosting their very first week-long journal challenge extravaganza! Each morning, for seven days, they will post a journal prompt or technique for challenge participants.
For each challenge go here and all the deets click below:

 Tuesday's Challenge:
PROMPT: HEARTS!
This should be easy! Use whatever supplies you want. Just include an image of a heart(s) and/or journaling about a heart(s). Easy Peasy!

"Alice of Hearts" - Art Journal Page #2

Today's challenge inspired me to create this digital art journal page.  I've decided to stay with my Alice in Wonderland playing card theme and used Smeared Ink's Queen of Hearts digi image.  I removed all the roses and added the hearts - Heart Wings discontinued digi set which is now only available in the Smeared Ink Rubber Club!  I gave the Queen a dreamy quality and left the heart roses very stark and removed lots of the main image so that there's plenty of white areas to jot down my thoughts.

"Alice of Hearts" - Art Journal Page for Smeared and Smudged Kickstart Your Art!

Howzit Everyone!
Today was a busy a day!  To start we had our first Smeared Ink Design Team Blog Hop, click on the pic of my creation below to go see it and take the hop ;0)

http://leighsbdesigns.blogspot.com/2014/01/the-vale-parts-smeared-ink-design-team.html

Today is also Day 1 of KICKSTART YOUR ART with the Smeared and Smudged Art Journal Every Day DT! What better way to experiment with new techniques and ideas than creating your very own ART JOURNAL for 2014!

Monday's challenge is
3 PRIMARY COLOR DRIPS

"Alice of Hearts" - Art Journal Page

The challenge inspired me to create this digital art journal page with an Alice in Wonderland playing card theme.  The primary colours Red, Yellow and Blue definitely got me in the mood to make a Pop Art piece.  But it's supposed to be an art journal page right so of course I will be printing it out and making my own Journal to write in.  I left the images white and lightened the background so that there's still plenty of place to jot down my thoughts.

Smeared Ink images used:
Girl #4 from the Hidden digi set
Heart - Heart Wings discontinued digi set now only available in the Smeared Ink Rubber Club!
Drips - partial from the digi set Fallen
Background - "Checkered" digi paper from the Zombie Killa 12 x 12 paper pack

If you'd like to join the fun then here's the deets on how you can kickstart your art.

The Smeared and Smudged Art Journal Every Day DT are so excited to be hosting our very first week-long journal challenge extravaganza! Each morning, for seven days, we will post a journal prompt or technique for challenge participants. The participants will have until midnight to post their journal page for that day's challenge. The daily winner will be announced the next morning along with the new journal challenge. Daily prizes will vary from gift certificates to coupons to free digis.

The fun thing about it is, at the end of the seven days we will be drawing for a grand prize! In order to qualify, participants must have posted entries in all seven journal challenges.

"The Veil Parts" Smeared Ink Design Team Blog Hop #1

Howzit Everyone!
Today is our 1st Smeared Ink Design Team "one day" blog hop!  Now that the Smudgy Antics challenge blog has moved from blogger to our Smeared and Smudged forum we thought you'd still like to see our design team creations all in one place!   So we're now going to showcase our creations in a monthly design team blog hop that will take place near the end of each month and the next one will be February 24!

For this hop we're featuring our "favourite Smeared Ink images" and I must say that is was a toughie coz Smeared Ink has so many images that qualify but I managed to narrow it down to their digi image called "The Valkyries".  It is a hauntingly beautiful image and this is what I created with it.

In case you didn't know Valkyries are from Norse mythology and in Old Norse "valkyrja" means "chooser of the slain" and they decide which soldiers die in battle and which live.  I coloured the image and created my digi art in Photoshop CS6 and combined it with one of Smeared Ink's newest digi papers of trees covered in snow from the End of Year paper pack and a vintage photo of the soldiers which I found on the internet.

My piece depicts 3 Valkyries parting the veil between their world and ours and peering down at soldiers who are unaware that their fate lies in the Valkyries hands.  Here's a closer look at the details.

Now hop on over and see what my SI teamies picked as their favourite images :0)

"White Nights Goth Fairy" Smeared and Smudged Rock n Rolla Challenge

Hiya Everyone!
Today I'm sharing a digi creation that was inspired by the current Rock n Rolla challenge over at the Smeared and Smudged forum!  In case you all didn't know, the forum is a great community of artists and we've got lots of fun challenges going on every single month with prizes up for grabs.  You have to be a member of the forum but it's free so come and play with us ;0)

So back to the Rock n Rolla challenge......you are challenged to focus on finding inspiration from music videos! It's fun and makes you think out of the box.  Each month a link to a video is provided and you find something in the video that inspires you and you make a project based on that.

January's CHALLENGE:
Oh Land - White Nights

I was inspired by the all white fairy/angel part at the beginning of the video and then the white and black geometrics about half way through.  I used one of Smeared Ink's Goth Fairies and coloured her in subtle pastel shades in Photoshop.  I erased the interior white areas on the fairy's wings and underlaid the digital images of the white feathers.  For the background I used SI's light "Checkered" digi paper from the Zombie Killa 12 x 12 paper pack and added the white decorative lines and finished with beveling and drop shadows to the fairy and wings to give her more dimension.  That really was loads of fun, it looks very Art Deco-esque ;0)

Here's a closer look at her!

"Look inside the eye of your mind" Keyhole digi art for the Smeared Ink design team

Happy Monday!
I hope you all had a fun and crafty weekend!  I had a blast working on my 2nd Keyhole inspired creation for Smeared Ink.

Like a mentioned last week I'm inspired to create a series of Keyhole Art using digitally altered photos of vintage door keyholes that give you a peek into the strange world beyond.   My piece for today has you looking through the keyhole into the eye of your mind....what do you see?

I digitally altered another photo of a real door keyhole and the fabulous image seen through the keyhole is Smeared Ink's Specimen Jar Man which I coloured in Photoshop CS6.  I also used their fab light "Checkered" digi paper from the Zombie Killa 12 x 12 paper pack for my background.  I'm really thrilled with how this one turned out ;0)

Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a great week..I'm having a root canal done this afternoon, ugh, I'll just close my eyes and mentally design my next Keyhole creation ;0)

"Poe Weeps Alone" A dark Valentine for the Smeared Ink DT!

Happy New Year Everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!  I've had a fabulous vacation and now here's my first project for 2014!  I'm thrilled to be on the Smeared Ink design team for the new year and this year I'm inspired to create a series of Keyhole creations using digitally altered photos of vintage door keyholes that give you a peek into a strange world beyond.   So here's a rather dark Poe inspired Valentine for you featuring Smeared Ink's Poe stamp from their exclusive rubber club set 'Quoth The Raven'.

I stamped the image of Poe and coloured it with Copic markers, scanned it and then merged it with the digitally altered photo of a vintage heart shaped door keyhole.  The photo manipulation and my completed creation was designed in Photoshop CS6.

I've entered this one into the Anything Poes challenge quest #28 over at Quoth the Raven ;0)

...just a note about stamping and scanning...many stamp companies and some of Smeared Ink's Rubber Club artists don't allow you to stamp, scan and then digitally alter the images so just be aware of each companies policies.

In case you missed the news about our Smudgy Antics challenge blog here's the scoop....
We have bid a fond farewell to our Smudgy Antics Challenge blog and have moved the challenges  back home to the Smeared and Smudged Forum to join all of the other fun challenges and events that are going on there every week!  The Smudgy Antics Challenges are "Anything Goes" all the time and can be found in "The Challenger" group on the forum and we will continue to offer a prize from the Smeared Ink shop!  Membership to the Smeared and Smudged forum is free so hope to see you there!

"I Really Do Hate Being Cold" a Winter card for Smeared Ink DT!

Howzit Friends!
I'm my holidays at the mo so hopefully blogger cooperated and this post went out as scheduled ;0)

Smeared Ink released a new image called "It Could Be" last week that I could not resist playing with!  Cold weather and snow and I just do not go well together, LOL, and I knew I wanted to convey my feelings on the subject with this creation especially when I saw the word HATE was incorporated into the design!  Doesn't it look like she's been strangled by freezing cold hands...brrrrr!

I started out by working with the image in Photoshop CS6 and used one of Smeared Ink's "Honour the Dead" digi papers for the background.  I added the text and the frame and printed it out onto heavy weight cardstock suitable for Copic markers then trimmed the cardstock and made a folded card.   I coloured the image with Copics, outlined the text with a black Copic Multiliner and used a white gel pen to make the words pop a bit more before applying Judikins Diamond Glaze to the text, her eyes and lips.  To make it even more frosty I embellished the card with snowflake buttons.

Happy Holidays Everyone, stay warm and safe!

Here's my Smeared Ink Design Team creation for this week :0)

Smeared and Smudged have implemented some other changes starting Dec 1st and we bid farewell to the Design Team Throwdown too.  We had a blast while it lasted and the Smeared Ink DT were the last to win so we went out with a bang, YAY ;0)  I created this Creepmas Candle with the theme we had planned to challenge the teams with for the next round, "Undead Parchment".

I used Smeared Ink's American Gothic image from their Zombie Classics digi set, printed it out and coloured it with Copic markers.  I then proceeded to create my faux parchment effect... I tore the image to fit the candle size, 8" tall, so the edges are tatty and scrunched up the paper to add creases.  Then covered the entire panel with Tea Dye Distress Ink in varying degrees of light and dark application.  To make it a Creepmas candle I added snowflake eyelets down both edges and laced up the candle sleeve with burgundy ribbon.

Thank you for visiting with me today!  Don't forget my current DominoART challenge is still open and it's an Any Game Goes with Any Theme, so dig out your bag of miscellaneous game pieces and come and play with us!  DominoART's 12 Days of Xmas Festival sponsored by Delicious Doodles is underway and the 12 Days of Creepmas blog hop with Smeared and Smudged is too... it's going to be creepy good fun so I hope you'll join us and snag some prizes a long the way ;0)

Now back to Week 2 of Anything Goes!  Here's my project to help inspire you to come and play with us ;0)

April this year I shared a Zentangle card called "The Girl with Daisies in her Hair" and now I'm back to share another card I made taking my Zentangle version of Smeared Ink's Girl 3 image from the Hidden set further.  Zentangles don't just have to be black and white with some pencil shading, they can be colourful too!

See my original post for all the deets on the black and white version.  I decorated the girl's hair with my 'daisies' variation of the Nzeppel Zentangle then added the Hollibaugh Zentangle in all 4 corners.  I used Copics to colour the image in yellows, blues and greens.

I used my Perfect Layers tool #1 and #2 to trim leaving a 1/8" border of white cardstock then adhered the panel to black cardstock with Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive and cut the black mat leaving a 3/16" border.

I made a folding card from white cardstock and adhered two pieces of decorative paper to it with a strip of yellow daisy ribbon covering the seam.  I then embellished the card with white and black self-adhesive pearls, paper flowers with white button brads in the centers and Spellbinders die cut leaves.  I also decorated the inside, but that's a secret for now teehee, and made a matching envelope with a stamped message (Studio G) in jet black Archival Ink.

Thank you for visiting with me today and I hope you'll come and play in our Smudgy Antics challenges and I'll see you over at DominoART too!  My current DominoART challenge is also an Any Game Goes with Any Theme, so dig out your bag of miscellaneous game pieces and come and play with us!  Christmas is just around the corner and so is my DominoART's 12 Days of Xmas Festival sponsored by Delicious Doodles!  Mark your calendars and stop by starting Dec 1st and oooh and aaaah over all the festive altered game art created by my Merry Players!   Plus Dec 1st also kicks off the 12 Days of Creepmas blog hop with Smeared and Smudged, it's going to be creepy good fun so I hope you'll join us and snag some prizes a long the way ;0)

'Valkyries' Luminary Card for Smudgy Antics 'Anything Goes' Challenge!

Good morning to you all!
It's week 1 of our new "Anything Goes" challenge over at Smudgy Antics!  We know you love these so we should see lots of fabulous entries over the next 2 weeks ;0)  Here's my project to get your Muse going!

"Valkyries"
A Luminary Card

I had a ball creating this card with an unexpected twist!  I love making interactive creations and being able to add real light to a card is loads of fun.  I used this gorgeous digi image called "The Valkyries" by Smeared Ink and printed it out onto Neenah Solar White cardstock and coloured it with Copic markers.  The edges were distressed with Tim's Paper Distresser tool and then the background was created with a combo of Burnt Umber Pastel Pencil blended with Dove blender pen and Pumice Stone and Black Soot Distress Ink.

I fussy cut out the center with an Xacto knife and adhered a Quality Street blue cellophane sweet (candy) wrapper over the hole.  The decorative mat is one of Smeared Ink's digi papers from the Honour the Dead set and I cut a circle out of it before adhering the image to it and did the same again before adhering everything to the black card.  Both mats were cut with my Perfect Paper Layers tool and an Xacto knife (I haven't got the measurements I used with me at the mo so will update my post later today).

The effect with the flameless candle standing behind the card is so beautiful and I especially love my candles with the timer so it comes on and off again all by itself ;0)

Christmas is just around the corner and so is my DominoART's 12 Days of Xmas Festival!

"Fire" and "Ice" Elemental Cards for Smudgy Antics!

Howzit Friends!
Happy Monday to you, I hope you all had a great weekend :0)

It's now week 2 of Smudgy Antics current challenge "Fire and Ice" and I'm sharing two cards I made using Smeared Ink's October exclusive Rubber Club set called Elementals.

"Fire" was stamped onto watercolour paper with Fired Brick Distress Ink and the colouring created by applying water to the inked image.  I blended Tea Dye and Black Soot Distress Ink to give the burnt look and took it one step further by actually burning the top edge of the image after I fussy cut it out.  I also added Diamond Stickles glitter glue to give the image a 'hot' glimmer of light.  The background paper is also from Smeared Ink, they now carry an awesome range of digi papers, this one is from the Vintage Grunge set!

"Ice" was created in the same way but this time I used Distress Ink Peacock Feathers for the stamping and watercolour effect and applied Shaded Lilac to the edges of the fussy cut out image.  I used Icicle Stickles glitter glue to give the image the frosty glimmer and for the "Ice" element I applied Distress Crackle Clear Rocky Candy paint to everywhere except her face and shoulder.  The background paper is from Smeared Ink's Honour the Dead set!

Both background papers were distressed with Tim's Paper Distresser tool before being adhered to black card which was then also distressed.  I embellished both with colour coordinating ribbons, paper flowers, brads and bling.  I hope I've inspired you to create some Fire and Ice projects of your own and look forward to seeing your creations over at Smudgy Antics!

Before you go I just want to remind you about DominoART's challenges too!  The current one is Any Game Goes with Any Theme!  If you've been wanting to try your hand at some altered game art then this is the perfect challenge to get your feet wet so dig out your bag of miscellaneous game pieces and come and play with us!

"Fire" Domino Pendant for Smudgy Antics Challenge "Fire and Ice"!

Howzit Friends!
I hope you all had a spooktacular Halloween!
We sure did over at DominoART with our 31 Days of Halloween Scarefest and blog hop with Smeared and Smudged!  I'm announcing the winners on Tuesday so stop by and check out all the spooktacular altered game art and see who snapped up the 3 fabulous prizes!

"Fire"Domino Pendant

I've got one of my "Sharpie Domino Queen" creations to share with you today for week one of Smudgy Antics new challenge "Fire and Ice"!  I used a Rick St Dennis image from Smeared Ink's exclusive Rubber Club set called "Morte".

I stamped a portion of the image onto a super-sized white domino and used Sharpie markers in my signature "Sharpie Domino Queen" style to colour the image and create a background that looks like flames.  The surface was sealed with Triple Thick gloss sealer and once dry I applied a coat of Inkssentials Matte Accents to give the stamped image a dimensional effect and added a touch of diamond glitter glue to the candle flames.  I used a DecoColor metallic gold paint pen to edge the domino before applying Tim Holtz Idea-ology script paper tape to the sides.  To make the pendant I adhered the sun bail to the front of the domino instead of the back and added a burgundy sued cord and jewelry findings to make the necklace.

Now we've got Christmas to look forward too, YAY!  I'm still needing a few more sign ups for my Merry Players list for DominoART's 12 Days of Xmas Festival and I'm also taking sign ups in advance for DominoART's 15 Days of Terror for May 2014 which is when we celebrate Half-O-Ween ;0)  Click the links above for more deets on both events!  My new DominoART challenge started November 1st too, Any Game Goes with Any Theme, so dig out your bag of miscellaneous game pieces and come and play with us!
Thank you for visiting with me today and I hope you'll come and play in our Smudgy Antics challenges and I'll see you over at DominoART too!
