"The Isle of Aud Parade" Over-sized Card - Spotlight on Lost Coast Designs Rubber Stamps!

Hello Everyone!

I'm featuring Lost Coast Designs Rubber Stamps this week and I've been having a ball!  Here's my second project called "The Isle of Aud Parade".  Also check out my first project, "The Architect Fairy" if you missed it!

These bizarre Isle of Aud Animals are the star of my over-sized card which measures 12" x 5.5"!  I also used the Tree Branch Background stamp again to create the stunning backdrop for this rather quirky card with the Zebra Border centered across the full length of the card.

Lost Coast Designs stamps: The Tree Branch Background, Zebra Border and Isle of Aud Animals - the animals come as a set!

Make the oversized card from dark blue cardstock.   Stamp the Tree Branch background with Versamark Watermark ink 3 times to fill the entire card.  Emboss with black embossing powder.
Now for my next trick...magically transform the blue cardstock and create the yummy purple-pink background!  How on earth did I do that you ask?  Well with bleach of course ;0)  Blockheads is currently hosting a Bleach Technique Challenge and I've been having a ball playing around with bleach and couldn't resist using it with this background stamp AND the Zebra border stamp!  I just love how the cardstock transformed into either purple or pink depending on how much bleach I applied!

Stamp the Zebra border stamp twice onto a different blue cardstock.  It's really cool how this blue cardstock went more pale blue to white depending on how much bleach I applied.  I've actually got a little swatch collection now of all my various cardstocks on a book ring showing how each one will look when bleached.  Freehand cut the border out following the wavy edge of the stripes with scissors.

Stamp the Isle of Aud Animals onto Neenah Solar White cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  I really wanted to use Spellbinders Reverse Wonky dies to cut out the animals but the dies weren't the right size so I used the dies as templates instead.  Trace the shape of the dies with a pencil and cut out with scissors.

Apply Dandelion and Cantaloupe Memento inks to colour the backgrounds and edge the panels with an Inkssentials Ink Blending tool.

Colour the animals with BV733, B707 and G673 Marvy Le Plume Permanent markers.  Adhere the Zebra border to the card with double sided tape and punch a hole with a tiny hole punch in each end and secure it to the card with mini purple brads.

Then mount the animal panels to the card with dimensional silicone glue.  I got the silicone glue while I was in England for Christmas and it's made by Create & Craft.  I've never used it before and I liked how you could have dimensional action going on without seeing the actual supports like you sometimes do with pop dots depending on the angle you're viewing the card from.

But then an 'OH NO' moment occurred followed by a lot more colourful words ;0)  I'd left the card for a few hours for the silicone to dry before taking more photos and was horrified to discover that the silicone had seeped through the cardstock and stained my gorgeous animal panels :0(  Sob sob!  Note to self...test cardstocks before using silicone glue!!!!!!!!!

But I wasn't going to let that faze me..much, LOL and promptly came up with a fix!

I camouflaged the dot stains and added some extra dots with Marvy Le Plume Permanent Y625 and Y627.  I really like how my 'fix' actually made my quirky card even more bizarre :0)

Thanks for visiting with me today, I hope you enjoyed my spotlight on Lost Coast Designs Rubber Stamps this week!

  1. And, here I was thinking the silicone glue sounded good. I have been trying to find something to replace the pop dots that dry out and fall off. Well, great recover!! I like the polka dots too. This would be a great piece to hang in a child's room and the polka dots just make it more whimsical. And, love the size!!
